This blanket looks difficult. It is not.
Seven double crochets worked into one small space open into a fan, with a round eye at its base. Each new row of fans sits between the fans of the row below. That is the whole trick, and it gives a fabric with real depth and shadow instead of the flat surface most first blankets end up with.
It is also a pattern you stop reading. Two rows repeat from the bottom to the top, both on the same two rules: a V into the centre of each fan, a fan into the space of each V. After three or four rows your hands know them, and from then on the blanket is something you do while you watch something else.

Choose a solid shade. On a textured stitch, a variegated or ombré yarn competes with the relief and the fans disappear into the dye. A light or medium solid lets the stitch do the work.

5 mm (US H-8) hook for the blanket, 5.5 mm (US I-9) for the foundation chain and the final edge.
Gauge: 2 pattern repeats = 12 cm (4¾ in) wide and 8 rows = 10 cm (4 in) in the fan pattern.
