🧶 Shell Stitch Blanket — Crochet Pattern
Textured fan stitch throw with a plain border · Cotton yarn · Easy · Instant PDF download
This blanket looks like it was difficult. It was not.
The whole thing is chains, single crochet and half-doubles — nothing you have not already done. What makes it look the way it does is the arrangement: several tall stitches worked into one point so they spread into a fan, the fans offset row to row so they nest between one another. That is the entire trick, and it produces a fabric with real depth and shadow instead of the flat surface most beginner blankets end up with.
And it is why a plain-stitch blanket and this one are not the same object. A large rectangle of single crochet reads as a lot of work. This reads as a piece someone designed. ✨
It is also the kind of pattern you stop reading. The repeat is short, and after three or four rows your hands know it. From then on the blanket is something you do while you watch something else — which is the only way a blanket the size of a blanket ever gets finished.

📖 What You'll Receive
✔️ 1 PDF crochet pattern ✔️ Written instructions ✔️ Full stitch abbreviations list ✔️ Printing guidance for A4 and A5
🪡 Stitches Used
Only five, and you probably know four of them already:
- CH — chain
- SC — single crochet
- HDC — half double crochet
- SL ST — slip stitch
- HDC SL ST — half double crochet slip stitch, used for the border
📊 Skill Level: Easy
There is no shaping, no colour changes, no assembly and nothing to fit. You work one repeating row until the blanket is as long as you want it, then work the border. If you can chain and work a half double crochet, this pattern holds nothing you have not met.
🧶 Yarn
Cotton yarn, in the colour of your choice.
One piece of advice that matters more here than on most patterns: use a solid colour. On a textured stitch like this, a variegated or ombré yarn competes with the relief — the eye follows the colour changes instead of the shells, and all the texture work disappears into the pattern of the dye. A plain mid-tone lets the stitch do the work.
🛍️ You'll Also Need
