One centre, dozens of rounds, and a blanket big enough to cover a bed.

It starts as a small cream flower and grows outwards through round after round of different stitches — shells, bobbles, spikes, picots — never repeating the same texture twice in a row. Partway out the circle turns into a square, the corners fill in, and a scalloped picot border finishes it.

It is a long project. It is also the one that teaches you more stitches than anything else on your hook, because every round is a new one.

📐 Make It Any Size You Want

This is the part most blanket patterns cannot offer.

Once the mandala has been squared, you simply add plain rounds — single crochet or double crochet — until it is the size you need. Stop early for a pram blanket, keep going for a throw, keep going further for a full bedspread. The mandala at the centre stays the same; only the plain outer rounds change.

The same applies to your yarn. The pattern is written for 8 ply (DK / light worsted) with a 4 mm hook, which gives the large size below. Use a thicker yarn and a bigger hook and it grows faster; use finer and it stays smaller. Nothing in the pattern breaks.

🧶 What's Included

  • ✔ Full written instructions, round by round

  • ✔ Instructions for the centre medallion and every textured round
  • ✔ Instructions for squaring the mandala and filling the corners
  • ✔ Instructions for the scalloped picot border

📏 Size

Worked in Finished
8 ply (DK / light worsted), 4 mm hook Approximately 259 cm / 102 in square

That is a full bedspread. Stop earlier, and you have a throw, a lap blanket or a pram blanket — the choice is yours, not the pattern's.

📊 Skill Level — Intermediate

No single round here is difficult. What the pattern asks for is stamina and attention: you will work a great many different stitch patterns, one after another, and you need to be comfortable reading a new one each time rather than settling into a rhythm. If you can follow a written pattern and you have made a granny square, you can make this — it will simply take you a while.

💡 Choosing Your Colours

The blanket is read by its rings, so two things matter more than which colours you like:

  • Keep one light colour coming back every two or three rounds. It separates the rings and gives the whole thing its rhythm.
  • Make sure no two touching rounds are equally light. Two pale rounds side by side merge into one blurry band, and you lose a round of the design.

Beyond that, use what you have. This pattern is a good way to spend a stash.

📦 Please Note

  • This is a PDF crochet pattern, not a finished blanket. Nothing will be shipped to you.
  • Instant digital download — no physical item.
  • Colours may look different from one screen to another, and your yarn choice will change the look.

Questions makers ask

Do I need to print anything?
Not unless you want to. The pattern is a clean PDF you can follow straight from your phone, tablet, or laptop. If you'd rather work from paper, it prints on regular A4 or US Letter with no special setup — and the layout is designed so you're not wasting ink on backgrounds.
I'm a complete beginner — can I do this?
Absolutely. Our patterns are designed to be beginner-friendly, with clear, illustrated step-by-step instructions that guide you through the whole process. Thousands of first-time makers have crocheted our patterns with no prior experience.
How do I get my pattern after I buy?
Instantly. The moment your payment is confirmed, your files are ready to download — and we'll also email you a download link so you always have access. No waiting, no shipping.
Can I sell what I make?
Yes! You're welcome to sell finished items you make from our patterns. We just ask that you don't share, resell, or redistribute the pattern files themselves.
What yarn and hook do I need?
Every pattern lists the exact yarn weight, hook size, and yardage up front, along with the gauge swatch so your finished piece comes out the right size. You can substitute any yarn of the same weight — just check your gauge first.
What if I get stuck?
We're here to help. If anything's unclear or you run into trouble, just reach out by email and we'll get you back on track — usually within 24 hours.
