🪡 A Note on the Hook Size

The pattern uses worsted weight (#4) cotton with a 3.5 mm (US E) hook, which is smaller than you would normally pair with this yarn.

That is deliberate. A small hook gives a dense, firm fabric — and firm fabric is what holds a lantern square instead of letting it sag. It is also what lets the panels grip the rigid insert properly. If you go up a hook size for comfort, you will get a softer lantern that does not stand as well.

Worsted weight (#4) cotton yarn in Snow White for the main pieces and Silver Gray for the trim, plus small amounts of Cool Light Gray, Pure White and optional Warm Gold. A 3.5 mm (US E) hook. No single stitch here is difficult. If you are comfortable with chain, slip stitch, single crochet, double crochet and picot edging, you already know every stitch in this pattern.
