That diamond texture looks like cabling. It is not, and that is rather the point.
Cables are a knitting thing. A crocheter who wants that deep raised look usually has to go and learn to knit — and this stocking is the crochet answer to it. The whole lattice is made with treble crochet worked around the posts of the stitches below and crossed over one another. If you can work a double crochet, you can learn it in an evening, and once you have it, you have it for everything else you make. ✨
And it is a real stocking: 47 cm / 18.6 in tall — a proper full-size one that actually holds things. Most crocheted stockings are small decorative versions, lovely on a shelf and useless on Christmas morning. This one gets filled.
Finished with an ivory ribbed cuff folded over the top, a sprig of crocheted holly with red berries, and three ivory balls on cords — crocheted, or ready-made wool felt balls for a soft felted look. Add a name to the cuff, and make a family set in three sizes by changing the yarn: DK, worsted or bulky.
