Worked from the neck down, in one piece, with nothing to sew at the end.

The alpine stitch does the work here β€” dense raised columns that give the whole sweater a woven, almost quilted surface, with real depth to it. Set on a top-down raglan with a standing collar, generous balloon sleeves and snug ribbed cuffs, cropped to sit at the waist.

You start at the collar and you finish at the cuff. There are no panels, no seams and no assembly.

🧢 What's Included

  • βœ” Complete gauge information in the alpine stitch itself

πŸ“ Finished Measurements

Measured flat, one size.

Centimetres Inches
Chest width 53 cm 20ΒΎ in
Length 54 cm 21ΒΌ in
Neck width 18 cm 7 in
Arm length 52.5 cm 20ΒΎ in
Wrist to wrist 148 cm 58ΒΌ in

πŸ“ Gauge

10 Γ— 10 cm (4 Γ— 4 in) = 8 double crochets and 6 rows, using an 8 mm hook, worked in the alpine stitch pattern.

Work a swatch and measure it before you start. The gauge is given in the actual stitch pattern rather than in plain double crochet, which means what you measure is exactly what the sweater is made of β€” no translating, no guessing.

🧠 Stitches Used

Chain Β· single crochet Β· double crochet Β· slip stitch Β· yarn over slip stitch Β· front post double crochet

The front post double crochet is what builds the alpine texture β€” it wraps around the stitch below instead of into it, which is what pushes the columns forward and gives the fabric its relief. If you have not used it before, it takes about three stitches to get.

βš™οΈ How It Works

  1. πŸ›’ Buy the pattern and download the PDF straight away
  2. πŸ“ Work a swatch in the alpine stitch and check it against the gauge
  3. β• Start at the collar and work the yoke, increasing at the four raglan lines
  4. 🎈 Separate for the sleeves and work the body down to the hem
  5. πŸ‘ Work each sleeve down to the cuff
  6. πŸ§₯ Weave in your ends. That's it β€” nothing to sew

πŸ“Š Skill Level β€” Intermediate

You should be comfortable working in the round, following written instructions, and keeping track of increases at four raglan points at once.

Two things make this intermediate rather than beginner: the front post stitches, which take a little practice before they sit evenly, and working with two strands held together, which needs a bit of attention so you catch both every time.

Neither is hard. But a top-down yoke is unforgiving of a lost place β€” the increases have to land where they should, or the shoulders will not sit right. Work the yoke when you have quiet, and the rest is rhythm.

πŸ’° Making These to Sell

You may sell the sweaters you make from this pattern in small quantities β€” at markets, at fairs, or to people who ask. Please do not resell, share or redistribute the pattern file itself.

πŸ“¦ Please Note

  • This is a PDF crochet pattern, not a finished sweater. Nothing will be shipped to you.
  • Instant digital download β€” no physical item.
  • Colours may look different from one screen to another, and your yarn choice will change the look and the drape.

Questions makers ask

Do I need to print anything?
Not unless you want to. The pattern is a clean PDF you can follow straight from your phone, tablet, or laptop. If you'd rather work from paper, it prints on regular A4 or US Letter with no special setup β€” and the layout is designed so you're not wasting ink on backgrounds.
I'm a complete beginner β€” can I do this?
Absolutely. Our patterns are designed to be beginner-friendly, with clear, illustrated step-by-step instructions that guide you through the whole process. Thousands of first-time makers have crocheted our patterns with no prior experience.
How do I get my pattern after I buy?
Instantly. The moment your payment is confirmed, your files are ready to download β€” and we'll also email you a download link so you always have access. No waiting, no shipping.
Can I sell what I make?
Yes! You're welcome to sell finished items you make from our patterns. We just ask that you don't share, resell, or redistribute the pattern files themselves.
What yarn and hook do I need?
Every pattern lists the exact yarn weight, hook size, and yardage up front, along with the gauge swatch so your finished piece comes out the right size. You can substitute any yarn of the same weight β€” just check your gauge first.
What if I get stuck?
We're here to help. If anything's unclear or you run into trouble, just reach out by email and we'll get you back on track β€” usually within 24 hours.
